Practical publishing toolkit

Keep a Contribution Available Ten Years From Now

Publishing is the beginning of archival care, not the end.

Do one useful thing publicly. These are voluntary, nonviolent publishing and relationship-building practices; no personal data, login or membership is required here.

Why this matters

Link rot breaks URLs; content drift changes what was once cited. Preserve both the original and a readable trail of changes.

Your practical action plan

  1. Choose a stable canonical address.
  2. keep Markdown/text and media masters.
  3. record author, date, license and sources.
  4. produce a checksum manifest and test restoration from two backups.
  5. use redirects when URLs change.
  6. periodically retest outbound sources and note changes without silently altering historic quotations..

What to produce

Deliverable: one restore-tested content package with a working link, version notes and a dated integrity check.

Important limits

Do not claim permanent immutability or guaranteed Internet Archive snapshots. Respect contributor permissions and requests involving sensitive material.
